About the Program:
Bioinformatics is a multidisciplinary area that is growing very fast both at the level of industry as well as academics. University of Pune is one of the few organizations in the world to offer M.Sc. program in Bioinformatics to meet the manpower requirement of industry as well as research institutes.

Duration of Program: Two years full time

Number of Seats: 30 (50 % seats will be filled in on an 'All India' basis in Open Category)

Location: Department of Bioinformatics, University of Pune, Pune

Eligibility Criteria: B.Sc. (any), B.Sc. (Agri), BCS, BE, BTech, MBBS, BPharm, BAMS, BHMS, BVSc. First class with minimum 60% marks or Grade A with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 in the scale of 0-10.

Selection Procedure: Selection is based on Entrance Test marks only. There will be two papers (Paper I & Paper II):

Paper I (100 Questions / 90 minutes) - is of the objective type, consists of 100 multiple choice questions up to Intermediate (10+2) level covering Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Statistics, Logic, Reasoning and English.

Paper II (100 Questions / 90 minutes) - is also of the objective type, consists of 100 multiple choice questions based on syllbi of bachelor's degree level courses that are listed in the section f: Eligibility.

The question paper would be divided into two sections viz. Section-A - covering areas of Life Sciences (botany, microbiology, biochemistry, zoology, cell biology, genetics, environmental biology, evolution, molecular biology etc.) and Section-B - covering areas of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science).
Marking: 1 marks per questions and Negative marking of 1 mark for every 4 incorrect answers in Paper I and II.
Candidates are expected to bring a pen, HB pencil, sharpener and eraser for the examination.

Result Announcement: June 30, 2009

Scholarships: The top five students of the M.Sc. class will receive the GN Ramachandran fellowships of Rs.2,000/- each per month.
